Early Season Fixture Changes Confirmed For Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have seen two early-season League One fixtures moved after the latest round of Sky Sports broadcast selections.

The Owls’ first home league game of the 2026/27 campaign, against Bradford City at Hillsborough, will now take place on Thursday 20 August with an 8:00pm kick-off.

The game had originally been scheduled for Saturday 22 August, but has now been brought forward and selected for live coverage on Sky Sports Football.

Wednesday’s trip to Peterborough United has also been moved. The fixture at London Road will still be played on Saturday 5 September, but will now kick off at 12:30pm.

That match is set to be shown live on Sky Sports+.

The changes mean Wednesday’s opening weeks now have a slightly different shape as Henrik Pedersen’s side prepare for life back in League One.

As things stand, the Owls begin the league campaign away at Leyton Orient on Saturday 15 August, with that fixture remaining a 3:00pm kick-off and also available on Sky Sports+.

They will then return to Hillsborough under the lights five days later for the visit of Bradford City, before hosting Bromley on Saturday 29 August.

A midweek trip to Wycombe Wanderers is currently scheduled for Tuesday 1 September, followed by the earlier kick-off away at Peterborough four days later.

For the fans, the Bradford change is likely to be the most significant adjustment. A Saturday afternoon home fixture has become a Thursday night kick-off, which may affect travel plans, work commitments and those coming from outside Sheffield.

The Peterborough change is less dramatic in terms of date, but the earlier start will still make a difference for supporters heading to the game.

With broadcast selections now starting to reshape the calendar, Wednesday fans will be watching closely for further changes as the opening months of the season edge closer.
