Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Tyler Onyango, continuing their summer recruitment as preparations for the new League One season gather pace.
The 23-year-old arrives after leaving Premier League side Everton, where he progressed through the club's academy before making his senior debut.
Standing at 6ft 5in, Onyango brings a different physical profile to Wednesday's midfield. Primarily a central midfielder, he has also featured in defensive positions during his career and adds further depth and competition to Henrik Pedersen's squad.
Premier League pedigree
Born in Luton, Onyango joined Everton's academy at the age of eight and progressed through the club's youth system.
He made his senior debut for the Toffees in January 2021, coming off the bench in an FA Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday, before making his Premier League debut later that year against Manchester City.
While opportunities at Goodison Park were limited, Onyango continued his development through Everton's youth setup and gained valuable senior experience during loan spells.
Those moves included Burton Albion, Forest Green Rovers and two spells with Stockport County, giving him experience of the physical demands and intensity of League One football.
That grounding should leave him well prepared for the challenge awaiting him at Hillsborough.
What Onyango brings
Onyango offers something slightly different to Wednesday's existing midfield options.
At 1.96m, his size immediately gives the Owls another imposing presence, while his experience across central midfield and defensive positions provides Pedersen with additional flexibility.
He arrives at Hillsborough at 23 with senior EFL experience behind him but still with room to develop as he looks to establish himself as a regular first-team player.
