Sheffield Wednesday have been drawn alongside Salford City and Accrington Stanley in Group A of the EFL Trophy.
The group will be completed on Thursday, 25 June, when one invited Premier League Under-21 side is added to the section as part of the full draw.
The Owls will be joined by one of the following academy sides:
Aston Villa, Everton, Leeds United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest or Sunderland.
The EFL Trophy is split into 16 regional groups of four teams, with eight groups in the Northern section and eight in the Southern section. The 48 EFL clubs are placed into pre-determined groups before the invited Under-21 teams are drawn into the competition.
Wednesday’s EFL Trophy fixtures are expected to take place from early September, with exact dates to be confirmed once the draw and fixture schedule are completed.
It will be a busy day for Owls supporters on Thursday, with the club’s full League One fixture list also set to be released at 12 noon. That will be followed by the EFL Trophy group-stage draw at 2:30pm and the Carabao Cup first round draw at 4:30pm, both live on Sky Sports.
The Carabao Cup first round will also be regionalised, with ties scheduled to be played across the weekend of 7-9 August.
For Wednesday, Thursday will give supporters a much clearer picture of how the opening weeks of the 2026/27 season will shape up, with league, cup and Trophy details all landing on the same day.
