Player profile
Charlie Martin McNeill is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-forward for Sheffield Wednesday.
Born in Droylsden, Greater Manchester, McNeill began his football development with Manchester United, the club he supported as a youngster. He moved across the city to Manchester City in 2014 and developed a reputation as a prolific academy goalscorer.
McNeill returned to Manchester United in 2020 and scored 24 goals in 21 appearances during his first season with the club’s Under-18 side. He was part of the United team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2022, alongside future first-team players including Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
His senior Manchester United debut arrived on 8 September 2022 when he appeared as a substitute against Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League.
McNeill gained further senior experience during loan spells with Newport County and Stevenage. He made 20 League Two appearances for Newport during the second half of the 2022/23 season, scoring twice, before joining Stevenage in September 2023.
After leaving Manchester United at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, McNeill joined Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent transfer on 10 July 2024.
He made an immediate impact on his Owls debut, scoring twice in a 2–1 EFL Cup victory away to Hull City on 14 August 2024. His opening goal arrived after just 27 seconds. McNeill subsequently made his Championship debut as a substitute against Stoke City in December 2024.
The striker became more regularly involved during the 2025/26 season. He scored his first Championship goals for Wednesday with a brace against former loan club Preston North End in November 2025 and ended the campaign with four league goals from 40 appearances.
