George Brown

George William Brown is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-forward for Sheffield Wednesday.

Born in Yorkshire, Brown began playing for Horsforth St Margaret’s at Under-7 level and remained with the grassroots club until the age of 16. He also spent several years with the Leeds-based Ultimate Football Coaching Academy, joining the programme as a teenager.

Brown developed into a prolific forward at UFCA and scored 47 goals in 26 appearances for its senior side in the Yorkshire Amateur League Supreme Division. He also helped the team win both league and county cup competitions.

After completing a successful trial with Sheffield Wednesday, Brown signed his first professional contract with the Owls on 6 September 2024.

He enjoyed a productive first season at Hillsborough, making 27 league appearances for the Under-21s and scoring eight goals across all competitions. His performances earned him a new contract in July 2025.

Brown was promoted into the senior squad ahead of the 2025/26 season and made his professional debut in the EFL Cup against Leeds United. He started the second-round tie as Wednesday progressed following a penalty shootout.

His Championship debut followed away to Portsmouth on 20 September 2025. Brown marked the occasion by scoring his first senior goal, completing a 2–0 victory that secured Wednesday’s first league win of the season.

His progress was disrupted by ankle and hamstring injuries later in the campaign. Sheffield Wednesday exercised an option in Brown’s contract in May 2026, extending his stay with the club into the 2026/27 season.
