Player profile
Iké Dominique Ugbo is a Canadian professional footballer who plays as a centre-forward for Sheffield Wednesday.
Born in Lewisham, London, Ugbo moved to Brampton, Ontario, with his family at the age of four. He played youth football for Brampton East and Woodbridge Strikers before returning to England and joining Chelsea’s academy.
Ugbo progressed through Chelsea’s youth system and was part of the squads that won consecutive UEFA Youth League titles in 2015 and 2016. He later gained his first senior experience through loan spells with Barnsley, Milton Keynes Dons and Scunthorpe United.
The striker moved abroad in 2019 and enjoyed a productive season with Dutch side Roda JC, scoring 13 league goals. He followed that with 16 league goals during a loan spell at Cercle Brugge in Belgium.
Ugbo left Chelsea permanently to join Genk in August 2021 and scored the winning goal against Anderlecht on his competitive debut. He moved to French club Troyes on loan in January 2022 before completing a permanent transfer later that year.
After spending the first half of the 2023/24 season on loan with Cardiff City, Ugbo was recalled by Troyes and joined Sheffield Wednesday on 11 January 2024.
He made an immediate contribution to Wednesday’s Championship survival campaign, scoring seven goals in 18 league appearances. His run included five goals across four games against Birmingham City, Leicester City, Millwall and Bristol City.
Following the conclusion of his successful loan, Ugbo returned to Hillsborough permanently on 8 August 2024 when Wednesday signed him from Troyes for an undisclosed fee.
At international level, Ugbo represented England at Under-17 and Under-20 level before committing his senior future to Canada. He made his Canadian debut in 2021 and was subsequently selected for the country’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
