Player profile
Jamal Lowe is a versatile forward and Jamaica international who joined Sheffield Wednesday following his departure from AFC Bournemouth in June 2024.
Born in Harrow, Lowe began his career with Barnet and progressed through the club’s academy before making his Football League debut against York City in August 2012.
He gained experience during a series of loan spells in non-league football with Hayes & Yeading United, Boreham Wood, Hitchin Town, St Albans City, Farnborough and Hemel Hempstead Town.
After leaving Barnet, Lowe played permanently for St Albans and Hemel Hempstead before joining Hampton & Richmond Borough in 2015. He scored 29 league goals across two seasons and helped the club win the Isthmian Premier League title during the 2015/16 campaign.
His performances earned him a return to the Football League with Portsmouth in January 2017. Lowe helped Pompey win the League Two title during his first season and later became a key member of their League One side.
He scored 17 goals in all competitions during the 2018/19 campaign as Portsmouth won the EFL Trophy and reached the League One play-offs. His performances also earned him a place in the PFA League One Team of the Year.
Lowe joined Wigan Athletic in August 2019 and made 48 appearances in all competitions during his only season with the Latics.
He moved to Swansea City in August 2020 and enjoyed a productive campaign in South Wales, scoring 14 league goals as the Swans reached the Championship play-off final.
AFC Bournemouth signed Lowe in August 2021. He scored seven league goals during his first season as the Cherries secured promotion to the Premier League.
Lowe later spent time on loan with Queens Park Rangers before returning to Swansea City for the 2023/24 season. He scored nine Championship goals during his second spell with the Welsh club.
On 29 June 2024, Lowe completed a permanent move to Sheffield Wednesday following the expiration of his Bournemouth contract. He scored on his competitive debut as the Owls defeated Plymouth Argyle at Hillsborough.
Lowe became a senior figure within the Wednesday squad and captained the side during the 2025/26 campaign. An appearance-related clause in his contract was triggered during that season, extending his stay with the club.
Born in England and previously capped by England C, Lowe qualifies to represent Jamaica through his family heritage. He made his senior international debut against the United States in March 2021 and scored Jamaica’s goal in a 4–1 defeat.
