Biography

Reece Harry Johnson is an English professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Sheffield Wednesday.

Johnson progressed through Wednesday’s academy and established himself within the club’s Under-18 and Under-21 sides.

The left-back signed his first professional contract with the Owls on 3 July 2024.

He continued his development with the Under-21s during the 2024/25 campaign and remained under contract as Wednesday prepared for the following season.

Johnson was promoted into the senior squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign following a summer of significant change at Hillsborough.

He made his professional debut on 13 August 2025, starting an EFL Cup first-round tie away to Bolton Wanderers.

Johnson played the full match and marked his debut by scoring Wednesday’s third goal in a 3–3 draw.

The youthful Owls subsequently progressed through a penalty shootout.

His Championship debut followed three days later when he replaced Liam Palmer during a home fixture against Stoke City.

Johnson’s progress into the senior squad continued during the opening months of the campaign.

In September 2025, he was moved permanently into the first-team dressing room alongside several other academy graduates.

His run of appearances was briefly interrupted when he suffered a foot injury during an EFL Cup tie against Grimsby Town.

The injury required stitches and ruled him out for several weeks.

After returning to fitness, Johnson continued to feature in Wednesday’s matchday squads and received further opportunities in both league and cup competition.

He made his first Championship start against Birmingham City on 20 January 2026 and completed the full match.

Johnson went on to make 16 senior appearances across all competitions during his breakthrough season, including 12 in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday offered him a new contract following the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.

Johnson is a naturally left-footed defender who operates primarily at left-back.

Standing at 1.76m, he is an energetic and mobile full-back who is comfortable advancing from defence and supporting attacks from wide positions.

His ability to operate higher on the left side also allows him to feature as a wing-back or wide midfielder when required.
