Bannan only left Hillsborough in January, bringing an end to more than a decade of service in blue and white. He joined Millwall on an 18-month deal and has made sporadic appearances since arriving in London, helping the Lions chase down a play-off spot.
But with Wednesday staring at a reset this summer, and with hopes that the Arise consortium can get a takeover completed before the end of the season, the thought of bringing the former skipper back into the fold has reportedly come up.
Wednesday are heading towards a huge rebuild, and few know the club, the pressure or the division better than Bannan. Supporters saw first-hand what he brought the last time the Owls were in League One, with his quality and leadership central to getting the club back out of it.
As Joe reports, there is nothing to suggest a deal is close, and whether it would be possible is another question entirely. But if there is genuine interest in a reunion, it would go down as a serious statement of intent.

At 36, Bannan is no long-term fix. But in a summer where Wednesday need character, standards and players who understand what the badge means, you can see why his name would be part of the conversation.
And if this one ever moved beyond internal discussion, there would not be many at Hillsborough turning their nose up at it.
