Land Registry Activity Adds to Growing Sense of Sheffield Wednesday Takeover Progress

Sheffield Wednesday’s long-awaited takeover appears to be moving into its final stages, with fresh Land Registry activity adding another sign that the process is progressing behind the scenes.

A Property Alert linked to Hillsborough Football Stadium shows that a search was lodged on 29 April 2026 by Charles Russell Speechlys LLP, with the activity listed as being “to protect a pending purchase” in favour of Hillsborough 1899 Limited.

The alert relates to Hillsborough Football Stadium, Leppings Lane, Sheffield, under title number SYK384069.

While this does not confirm that the takeover has been completed, it does suggest that legal and property-related steps are actively being taken as the proposed change of ownership moves forward.

It comes amid growing expectation that US consortium Arise Capital Partners, led by David Storch, are aiming to complete their takeover of Sheffield Wednesday before their self-imposed May 1 deadline.

Storch flew into the UK earlier this week with a view to finalising the remaining elements of the deal. According to reports from The Star, one of the key steps completed this week has been the formalisation of the consortium’s UK banking arrangements, which are required both to complete the transaction and to operate the club once the deal is done.

There remains confidence among those close to the process that Friday’s target can still be met.

That timing is significant. From the next working day, May 5, the incoming Independent Football Regulator is expected to take control of vetting new football club owners. Any delay beyond this week could therefore risk dragging the process out further and eating into valuable planning time ahead of what will be a major summer rebuild.

For Wednesday supporters, the timing could hardly be more dramatic.

A sold-out Hillsborough is expected for Saturday’s final game of the season against West Brom, with fans already preparing for what could be a highly emotional day at S6. After a brutal campaign on and off the pitch, there is now hope that the final whistle may also mark the beginning of a new era.

Several members of the prospective directors’ families are also expected to attend the game, with a number travelling from the United States later this week.

Owls boss Henrik Pedersen has also spoken positively about the situation, telling The Star that he remains hopeful the deal can be completed in time to give supporters something to celebrate.

“Yes, they are working so hard right now to finalise everything,” Pedersen said. “I spoke with David on Sunday evening, and I know they are working so hard to get everything done, and their aim is still to solve everything on Friday, so they can have some positives for the fans on Saturday.”

Pedersen is expected to stay on heading into next season and has been in regular contact with the prospective new owners. He has spoken of their ambition and the frequent conversations taking place as the club looks towards life under new ownership.

For now, nothing has been officially completed. But between Storch’s arrival in the UK, the reported banking progress, the club’s confidence around the May 1 deadline and now the Land Registry activity connected to Hillsborough, the signs are clearly pointing towards a takeover process entering its decisive phase.

After everything Wednesday supporters have endured, even cautious optimism feels justified.

The process continues — but this now feels closer than ever.
