Will Grainger Signs Long-Term Sheffield Wednesday Deal

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that highly rated academy forward Will Grainger has signed a long-term professional contract with the club.

The 17-year-old has been one of the standout young names around Hillsborough over the past 12 months, and this new deal represents a significant boost for Wednesday as they continue to build towards the new season.

Grainger, who plays as a centre forward, made his senior breakthrough during the 2025/26 campaign and ended the season with eight first-team appearances in all competitions. His first senior goal arrived away at Oxford United in April, a memorable moment in what was otherwise a difficult afternoon for the Owls.

The teenager also made his full senior debut on the final day of the season against West Bromwich Albion, further underlining the growing trust placed in him by the first-team setup.

At international level, Grainger has already represented Wales across several youth age groups, including Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level. His development has not gone unnoticed, with reported Premier League interest earlier this summer, but Wednesday have now moved to secure his future.

For the fans, this feels like exactly the type of business the club needed to get right.

After a turbulent campaign, there has been a clear appetite to see more academy talent given a pathway into the first team. Grainger’s progress has offered one of the more encouraging storylines, and tying him down long term gives Wednesday a platform to continue developing him properly.

There should still be patience around him. He is only 17, and young forwards often need careful management, especially in senior football. But Grainger has already shown flashes of movement, confidence and instinct in and around the box.

This deal is not just about keeping a promising player. It is also a statement that Wednesday intend to protect and develop their own talent rather than allow the club’s brightest prospects to drift away.

If Grainger continues on his current trajectory, this could prove to be a very important piece of business.
