Player profile
Iraq international striker Ali Al-Hamadi joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan in August 2026, after spells with AFC Wimbledon, Ipswich Town, Stoke City and Luton Town.
Player profile
Ali Al-Hamadi was born in Maysan, Iraq, in March 2002 and moved to Liverpool with his family as a baby, growing up in Toxteth. He played youth football at Tranmere Rovers before joining Swansea City’s academy in 2018, where he signed his first professional contract in 2020.
He began his senior career at Wycombe Wanderers and spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Bromley, helping them win the FA Trophy.
His breakthrough came at AFC Wimbledon, whom he joined in January 2023. He scored 23 league goals for the Dons across a season and a half, was named EFL Young Player of the Month for March 2023 and won three PFA League Two Fans’ Player of the Month awards in the autumn of 2023.
That form earned a move to Ipswich Town in January 2024, and he was part of the squad that finished second in the Championship that season to win promotion to the Premier League. Loan spells followed at Stoke City in 2024/25 and Luton Town in 2025/26, where he won the EFL Trophy.
Al-Hamadi joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan on 26 August 2026 and made his debut that weekend in the 7–2 win over Bromley. He wears the number 12 shirt.
At international level, he has 21 caps and five goals for Iraq. He scored the opening goal in the intercontinental play-off final against Bolivia in March 2026 that took Iraq to their first World Cup in 40 years, and he was named in their squad for the tournament.
