Jarvis Harry Thornton is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Sheffield Wednesday.
Born in Barnsley, Thornton began playing football with local grassroots side Hoyland Town Magpies.
He joined Sheffield Wednesday at Under-8 level and progressed through every stage of the club’s academy system.
Thornton attended Kirk Balk Academy and combined his education with his development at Wednesday.
He became an influential member of the Owls’ youth sides and captained the Under-18 team.
Thornton developed primarily as a central midfielder, demonstrating composure in possession, defensive awareness and an ability to contribute in both halves of the pitch.
In February 2024, he scored an impressive long-range goal during a 1–1 draw away to Burnley.
The strike earned Thornton a nomination for the League Football Education Goal of the Month award.
He signed his first professional contract with Sheffield Wednesday on 3 July 2024.
Thornton continued his development with the Under-21 side during the 2024/25 campaign while also spending time around the senior squad.
He was promoted into the first-team group ahead of the 2025/26 season and was allocated squad number 37.
Thornton made his professional debut on 13 August 2025, starting an EFL Cup first-round tie away to Bolton Wanderers.
He completed the full match as a youthful Wednesday side drew 3–3 before progressing through a penalty shootout.
Thornton retained his place in the squad for the following round and featured as the Owls defeated Leeds United on penalties.
His Championship debut followed on 4 October 2025 when he came on as a substitute against Coventry City.
Thornton made his first league start on Boxing Day 2025 during a 2–2 draw with Hull City.
He became increasingly involved during the remainder of the campaign and finished his breakthrough season with 23 Championship appearances and 27 appearances across all competitions.
Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, Sheffield Wednesday confirmed that Thornton had been offered a new contract.
Thornton is a right-footed midfielder who can operate centrally or in a deeper defensive role.
Standing at 1.77m, he is comfortable receiving possession from the defence and helping move the ball through midfield.
His academy experience as a team captain also demonstrated his leadership qualities and understanding of the game.
