Biography

Jordi Liongola is a Burundi international right wing-back who joined Sheffield Wednesday from Belgian side RAAL La Louvière in June 2026.

Born in Tessenderlo, Belgium, Liongola developed within the youth academies of Standard Liège and Royal Antwerp before beginning his senior career with Lierse Kempenzonen.

He signed a one-year contract with Lierse in July 2021 and made his professional debut the following month, featuring in a 2–0 victory over Virton. Liongola made 24 appearances in all competitions during his first senior season and scored twice.

In July 2022, he joined RAAL La Louvière and quickly became a regular on the right side of the team. He scored five league goals during his first campaign as the Wolves secured promotion from the Belgian third tier.

Liongola remained an important player the following season, scoring four league goals as La Louvière earned a second successive promotion and returned to Belgium’s second division.

He helped the club consolidate its position during the 2024/25 campaign before playing a significant role in another successful season as La Louvière reached the Belgian Pro League.

During the 2025/26 season, Liongola featured regularly in Belgium’s top division. His athleticism, attacking output and ability to cover the entire right flank established him as one of the club’s most consistent performers.

Across his four seasons with La Louvière, Liongola made more than 120 appearances in all competitions and scored 16 goals.

On 27 June 2026, he completed a permanent transfer to Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee. Liongola signed a three-year contract with the Owls, keeping him at Hillsborough until the summer of 2029.

Although primarily used as a right wing-back, he is capable of playing as a conventional right-back, right-sided midfielder or further forward on the wing.

Born in Belgium to a family of Burundian heritage, Liongola represented Belgium at under-16 level before electing to play senior international football for Burundi.

He made his Burundi debut in a friendly victory over Liberia in March 2022. Liongola scored his first senior international goal during a 4–0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying victory over Chad in March 2026.
