Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Connal Trueman, adding further depth to Henrik Pedersen's squad ahead of the 2026/27 League One campaign.
The 30-year-old arrives with more than a decade of senior experience in English football, having come through the academy at Birmingham City before building a career across the EFL.
Born in Birmingham on 17 April 1996, Trueman joined Birmingham City's academy as a youngster and made his senior debut for the Blues in August 2017 during an EFL Cup tie against Norwich City. He went on to make more than 30 first-team appearances for his boyhood club.
Experience across the EFL
As with many young goalkeepers, Trueman gained valuable senior experience through a number of loan spells. He represented Solihull Moors, AFC Wimbledon, Milton Keynes Dons and Swindon Town, developing a reputation as a dependable shot-stopper.
He later joined Millwall before spending time with Crawley Town, adding further League One experience to his CV.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Trueman brings an imposing physical presence and experience across several levels of the English game.
What it means for Wednesday
Trueman's arrival continues the reshaping of Wednesday's goalkeeping department and gives Pedersen another experienced option between the posts.
Rather than arriving without competition, he joins a squad in which places must be earned. His experience, reliability and knowledge of the EFL should provide useful depth during a demanding League One season.
The move also continues a clear theme in Wednesday's summer recruitment, with the club adding established professionals alongside younger players as the squad is rebuilt for the campaign ahead.
